More Parking Coming To Downtown Vermilion

Mayor Forthofer has proposed a plan to Vermilion City Council to convert the vacant lot at Liberty and Grand Streets in downtown Vermilion into a paved parking lot. According to the mayor, it will have a community area along Liberty for 3rd Thursdays, parade viewing, etc. It will also provide a path from Liberty to the large parking lot along the tracks in back.

“It can also be used for community events...possibly a drive in movie projecting onto the Art Scene wall...just an idea,” stated the mayor.

City Council unanimously approved the plan.

“I would have preferred that this space be used for a commercial and/or residential building,” said Mayor Forthofer, “but no partners came forward. I don't want this section of our beautiful downtown to be a blight again this year.”

Completion is targeted for June, according to Mayor Forthofer.
