City Phone System Attacked

At the Vermilion City Council Meeting on Monday, February 3, 2020 Mayor Forthofer reported that on Tuesday, January 14th at approximately 3:40 pm, Vermilion City's phone system was flooded with robo-calls in a foreign language. They paralyzed the city phone system.

“Our main concern was VPD dispatch which was frozen,” stated the mayor.

The system was restored by Sgt. Reising. Richard Posywak, Head IT, restored the rest of the city system.

“But we lost email January 15th,” said the mayor. “At a monthly Lorain County Mayors meeting I learned that other communities had been cyber attacked, but no flood of robo-calls.”
